A full day on the bikes, cycling around the edge of Colombo and north along the dutch canal to Negombo Beach. Back where we started!!! What an adventure. Marion Guest House. My bike box is still at Silver Sands so I pick it up, very soon it will be time to pack the bikes away again for the flight.
Back on the road again on a clear sunny morning. Greeted by, "double good morning", "morning, morning". Take small back roads by the sea, great sea breeze, blue ocean. This is the area where the train was washed off the tracks during the Tsunami. Arrive in Galle and stay at Khalid's Guest House in the old fort. Walk the walls and feast on piping hot roti.
Saturday 1st January 2011 We have decided to stay another night at Sunny Lanka and try the bike shop. A 3 wheeler comes and picks us and the tyre up, off with directions to the bike shop. Yes, we can replace that, come back after 1pm. Oh really. Yep!!!
We adored Golden Coconut Cabana but we decided to move on because the village was unable to repair Linda's split rim. We cycle slowly - she has disconnected her rear brakes. Zoom - Mark - a friend from Japan zooms by - stop - it's me!!! Gillian and Zoe shortly arrive. Thanks for all your help getting Linda's rim almost sorted - they don't have the tools to remove the hub. M, G and Z head off - they are on a package tour. Linda and I slowly cycle off in search of accommodation - we stay at Sunny Lanka in Polhena - the friendly owner talks about the Tsunami and tells us about another bike shop that might be able to replace the split rim.
